Microsoft may have written off 2024 a bit, as a rumor has surfaced that one of the Xbox exclusives may be delayed until next year.
2024 is not a big deal for Sony either, and they have been very quiet lately. That could change with the PlayStation Showcase, a major event planned for early September, where the PlayStation 5 Pro, which has been rumored for months (!), could be unveiled and Sony could outline their plans for the next year and a half or two, as they’ll need to reveal what games are in the pipeline at PlayStation Studios…
The Verge’s Tom Warren reported in a paywalled article on the site that Obsidian Entertainment’s first-person action-RPG Avowed could slip from its fall release date to early 2025. According to Warren’s sources, there’s nothing wrong with the game; Microsoft and Obsidian just want more breathing room, so they’re taking the game out of a turbulent, crowded release period.
We have to give them credit, because there are FOUR AAA action RPGs coming out this fall. Even with Avowed out of the picture, there’s still Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Of these, Paradox and The Chinese Room game (Bloodlines 2) will not be shown at Gamescom and may be delayed. Back in June, Avowed director Carrie Patel was optimistic about a fall release.
Avowed is set in the Eora universe created by Obsidian, as is the Pillars of Eternity game pair. It will be first-person, but you can also use the third-person view. It removes the character classes and is generally aimed at a mainstream audience, Obsidian and Microsoft are making the game for Xbox Series and PC, but it will also be available on Xbox Game Pass (Ultimate tier will be available from day one).
The announced delay is not official yet!
