Mountainop’s competitive, tactical, first-person shooter looks very promising so far, and that’s no surprise given the team of experienced developers.
The Mountainop team has previously worked on Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Halo, Overwatch, and Valorants, and now they’re making a dual-system tactical FPS that they believe will fundamentally change the way players think about strategy. It features 3v3 matches. Duality lets you control two bodies in real time, allowing you to defend two locations at once, cover your own cross, or even trade yourself. Duality is an entirely new vector of mastery that brings a new dimension to tactical shooter fundamentals. Spectre Divide takes place in the futuristic city of Breakwater, where the unsanctioned competition of “Santai” is the pinnacle of achievement and status. In Spectre Divide, there are no pre-set characters – this is your rise to mastery. Create your own pair of competitors and forge a legacy through combat, competition, and community.
Use Duality to freely switch into your second body, called a Spectre, at any time to overwhelm and surprise enemies from multiple positions. Death cannot stop you. Your Spectre is a second chance at victory, giving you twice the uptime each turn. Duality has been woven into every aspect of the game, including maps, equipment, weapons, economy, and more. Aim-down-sights (ADS) gunplay allows you to shoot on the move with true crosshair accuracy. Deterministic spray patterns require mastery of your weapon of choice.
Each match, choose from a powerful set of gear provided by sponsors to specialize your role and playstyle. Gather intel, set traps, and boost teammates on the fly – no ultimates. Each gear set is integrated with Duality, creating new ways to outplay the enemy. Spectre Divide’s style is rooted in sci-fi comic book art and the classic Japanese cel animation of the ’90s. The world has a hand-drawn look that captures the same energy and momentum as the concept art. The style presents clean visual reads, perfect for executing next-level games. Compete solo or with your team in Ranked to show off your skills. Compete with your crew of 60 friends in a weekly, engagement-based competition to earn the most points and climb the leaderboard.
“Our team has been patiently waiting for this day to show how Spectre Divide will breathe new life into the genre. The support of our community means everything to us and drives us to make a better game. A huge thank you to all of our incredible playtesters who have helped make the game what it is over the past few years,” said Mountaintop game director Lee Horn in a press release.
Spectre Divide is coming to PC, release date unknown. The first major stress test will take place on Steam from August 3-4.
