MOVIE NEWS – The 20th CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival will be held from September 6 to 14, 2024, where Csaba Vékes’ romantic sports comedy, The Rebound starring Péter Scherer and Patrick Duffy from Dallas, will premiere in the East of East feature film competition section, focusing on new Central and Eastern European films. In this charming comedy distributed by JUNO11 Distribution, we will see great actors like Dezső Derzsi, Andrea Waskovics, László Katona, Zsolt Fekete, Roland Rába, Ferenc Elek, and Zoltán Mucsi. The film’s poster is also ready.

For Kálmán (Péter Scherer), button football is not child’s play but a seriously competitive sport. His team is preparing for the European Championship. They are obsessed, the holy crazies of button football, the golden-fingered titans of “pöci-foci.” They would have a real chance to qualify, but due to financial reasons, they are disqualified in the final stages of the qualifiers. Their lives fall into crisis as they lose what was most valuable to them. However, an unexpected solution arrives when a billionaire (Patrick Duffy) mistakenly transfers a small fortune to their account. Although they know the money isn’t rightfully theirs, the temptation is too great, as it gives them a chance to go to the European Championship. The Rebound is a heartfelt sports comedy about vulnerability, love, perseverance, and a tribute to the fantastic Hungarian game, button football, loved by many of us.

Csaba Vékes’ romantic sports comedy will be seen first by the Hungarian audience at the 20th CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival from September 6 to 14, 2024, in the festival’s new East of East feature film competition section, focusing on Central and Eastern European films. Alongside Péter Scherer and Patrick Duffy, the film stars Dezső Derzsi, Andrea Waskovics, Roland Rába, Ferenc Elek, and Zoltán Mucsi.

The creators always intended Péter Scherer for the lead role: “Pepe has been part of the project since the first storyline, and we knew from the beginning that he would be Kálmán, the male lead. The entire casting was built around this, deciding who would play his son, who would be in the team, and so on. He participated in the development, preparation, discussions about costumes and visuals. Pepe is a wonderful figure known and loved by almost everyone in this country,” said Csaba Vékes about their collaboration.

The Rebound is a romantic sports comedy written and directed by Csaba Vékes, co-written by László Gönye, produced by Péter Roskó, and creatively produced by Péter Scherer. The film was made with the support of the National Film Institute, produced by Három Homár and Blue Duck Arts. The cinematographer is Zoltán Dévényi, the production manager is Péter Krékits, the production designer is Eszter Takács, the costume designer is Emese Pirityi, the composer is Márton Kovács, and the assistant director is László Bednárik. The main roles are played by Péter Scherer, Dezső Derzsi, Andrea Waskovics, László Katona, Zsolt Fekete, Roland Rába, Ferenc Elek, Sándor Gáspár, Anna Györgyi, Zoltán Mucsi, and Patrick Duffy. The film will be released in domestic cinemas on September 26 by JUNO11 Distribution.
