Alien: Romulus Projected to Have a Surprising Opening Weekend

MOVIE NEWS – Projections suggest that Alien: Romulus could set a new record for the Alien franchise’s opening weekend, with forecasts predicting a domestic debut between $35 million and $50 million. Even without Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), this film might achieve the highest opening weekend earnings in the franchise’s history. The Xenomorph encounters promise another terrifying experience for audiences, and the movie could become a massive global success.

Even without Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the Alien franchise continues to draw significant box office revenue, and Alien: Romulus might break the record for the best opening weekend among all films in this beloved sci-fi horror series. With only ten days left until Fede Álvarez’s directorial contribution hits theaters, Romulus is projected to open domestically with earnings between $35 million and $50 million (according to Boxoffice Pro). If the Cailee Spaeny-led thriller reaches the upper end of these predictions, it could mark the highest opening weekend in the history of the Alien movies.

Prometheus, released in 2012 and starring Michael Fassbender, currently holds the record with a $51 million opening weekend. While Alien: Covenant (2017) did not perform as well as Prometheus, it still had a respectable debut, earning $36.2 million.

Behind-the-scenes footage of Alien: Romulus teases a dark and intense journey for the new characters encountering the deadly and unpredictable Xenomorphs, creating a truly nightmarish experience. However, even if Romulus achieves record-breaking opening numbers, it has a long way to go to match the overall global box office success of its predecessors.

Despite their profitability, no Alien film has crossed the $500 million mark globally, and only Aliens has received universal acclaim since its release. It’s noteworthy that since Alien vs Predator’s 2004 debut, the Xenomorph has enjoyed greater success overseas than in the United States.

The official trailer for Alien: Romulus shows the terrifying Xenomorphs and Facehuggers ready to wreak havoc and multiply. The question remains whether this latest installment can match or surpass the global box office totals of the franchise’s most lucrative entry, which currently is Prometheus with $403.4 million. Another factor to consider is the potential competition from Deadpool and Wolverine films.
