Tech Visionary Behind Google and YouTube’s Rise Passes Away at 56 — The Whole Internet in Mourning

TECH NEWS – A heartbreaking announcement has arrived: we have lost one of the pioneers of the tech world. Susan Wojcicki, former CEO of YouTube and a defining figure in digital media, has passed away at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with lung cancer, as confirmed by her husband, Dennis Troper.

“It is with deep sorrow that I share the news of my beloved wife, Susan Wojcicki’s passing. After 26 years of marriage and five wonderful children, Susan passed away after a two-year battle with non-small cell lung cancer” – wrote Troper in an emotional Facebook post.

Troper described Wojcicki not just as his closest companion, but as an exceptionally smart person, a devoted mother, and a beloved friend to many.

“Her impact on our family and the online world is immeasurable. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the time we spent together” – added Troper. “Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time.”

Wojcicki, a key figure in digital media, was one of Google’s earliest employees when the co-founders were still working out of her garage in California. She became Google’s 16th employee and spent nearly 25 years shaping the future of the company.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed his heartfelt condolences in an X post, acknowledging Wojcicki’s critical role in Google’s history.

“She was an exceptional leader, visionary, and friend who left an indelible mark on the world. Like many others, I am a better person for having known her. She will be greatly missed” – said Pichai.

Wojcicki led YouTube as CEO for nine years before stepping down in 2023 to focus on her health, family, and personal passions, marking the end of an era for the platform as it transitioned into the social media age.

Reflecting on her departure, Wojcicki said: “I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved. The journey has been exhilarating, meaningful, and all-consuming.”
