The Astronauts won’t be jumping right into the deep end with their game, which is currently available on the Epic Games Store…
Witchfire is a single-player dark fantasy RPG first-person shooter where you play as an evil sinner turned witch hunter on his final mission to find salvation. Witchfire comes from the creative minds behind Painkiller and Bulletstorm. Featuring a unique blend of soul-like, extraction and roguelike gameplay, Witchfire offers a challenging yet satisfying experience with multiple paths to victory. Skill and knowledge are essential to success in the battle against the Witch of the Black Sea and her Witchfire-fueled army. If you die, you have a chance to return and reclaim what you lost – or regroup and take on other enemies.
Explore vast, immersive biomes and choose your battleground to face the Witch’s forces. Each completed encounter strengthens you and your arsenal as you journey through the roguelite system called Arcana. There are countless ways to build your Preyer and dominate the Witch. Only the most evil individuals can transform into Preyers, undead assassins fueled by the Witchfire that flows through their veins. From the base of operations known as the Hermitage, you can choose from a wide variety of distinctive weapons, spells, and artifacts to build your own Preyer. On each expedition, you can retrieve your looted items or, if you feel confident, confront the witch’s familiar to unlock new areas with powerful new items and upgrades. Piece together a forbidden tale from the past that can save the future.
Witchfire was originally released to Early Access on the Epic Games Store in September 2023, and has received significant updates since then. During the Steam Early Access period, Witchfire will undergo changes including the addition of new areas, enemies, weapons, and tools of destruction. Join the hunt and help the game reach its full potential! “The Wailing Tower patch brings elements of cosmic horror to Witchfire and features the first new raid map since the game’s release. Arcana power-ups now include “Prophecies” and “Curses” to help and challenge players, while the souls of fallen prey can be summoned to aid you in your quest against new enemies. In addition to the equipment and gameplay updates, the game has been enhanced with evocative music by composers Marcin Przybylowicz (The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077), P.T. Adamczyk (Gwent, Cyberpunk 2077), and Pawel Blaszczak (Dead Island, Call of Juarez, Dying Light).
Witchfire will launch in Early Access on Steam later this year.
