SEGA to Remove a Sonic Title from Xbox Store – Here’s How to Get It Before It’s Gone

SEGA is set to delist one of its most beloved titles, Sonic Generations, from the Xbox Store next month, and fans of the blue blur should act quickly to secure a copy while they still can. Over the past few weeks, Xbox players have noticed a shrinking selection on the Xbox Store, largely due to the closure of the Xbox 360 marketplace, which has already turned several games into lost media.

Adding to the disappointment is the upcoming removal of Sonic Generations, which, in my opinion, stands as one of the best 3D Sonic games ever created. The game features Sonic and his friends celebrating the iconic character’s birthday, only for the festivities to be interrupted by a time-bending monster controlled by Dr. Eggman. Sonic must race through various remade levels from his past games, ultimately meeting his younger self and splitting the gameplay between 2D and 3D stages.

The reason behind this removal is SEGA’s plan to release a remastered version, Sonic X Shadow Generations, which will not only update the original game for modern platforms but also include an entirely new game featuring Shadow as the lead character.

Sonic Generations will officially be delisted from the Xbox Store, as well as the Steam store, on September 9th, so there isn’t much time left to grab it.

However, if you miss the deadline and you’re a PC player, there is a workaround. The game will still be available on Steam as part of various bundles featuring Sonic, though it will no longer be available as a standalone purchase.

While it might be tempting to wait for the shiny new version, those looking to preserve the original title have until September to do so.
