Nintendo is Opening a Museum to Celebrate Its Legacy [VIDEO]

The Japanese company is about to open a museum in Kyoto, but it’s not so easy to get in.

At the Nintendo Museum, visitors can discover and experience Nintendo’s history of entertainment and its commitment to creating experiences that value creativity through exhibits of the many products it has released. See side-by-side displays of products released by Nintendo. Discover Nintendo’s commitment to creation and innovation while connecting it to your own memories and experiences. Enjoy gaming experiences born from Nintendo’s creativity and enhanced by modern technology.

Experience Nintendo’s origins by making and playing your own Hanafuda playing cards and learning the rules of the game. This experience requires a reservation on the day of your visit and a separate fee. In addition to specialty drinks, the cafe offers hamburgers that you can customize by combining your favorite ingredients. The shop sells official merchandise based on Nintendo game worlds and characters, as well as items that are only available at the Nintendo Museum. The café and shop are located inside the Nintendo Museum and are only open to ticket holders.

Tickets will be sold through a random drawing and will grant access to a specific date and time. Please register in advance for the lottery for the dates of your choice and pay for the tickets once you have been selected. Adult (18+) – 3,300 yen, Youth (12-17) – 2,200 yen, Child (6-11) – 1,100 yen, Preschooler (0-5) – free. In USD, the prices are $22.5, $15, and $7.5, respectively.

This museum was recently the subject of a ten-minute Nintendo broadcast, which we’ve embedded below. Since the company’s history doesn’t just go back 2-3 decades (Nintendo already existed in the 19th century with Hanafuda cards…), you can really get a deeper historical insight if you happen to be in Japan (not that easy, mind you).
