Could Silent Hill 2 Remake Be Longer Than the Original?! The Developers Speak

Bloober Team has added a lot of content to Silent Hill 2 Remake, mainly in terms of exploration…

It was predictable that length would be one of the main differences between Silent Hill 2 Remake and the original. However, we did not expect the change to be so big. Mateusz Lenart, Bloober Team’s creative director and lead designer, confirmed via social media that the remake of the series’ most popular game will need “between 16 to 18 hours for a first playthrough.” That’s more than twice as long as the main story of Konami’s 2001 original, which took around eight hours!

Silent Hill 2 Remake will include much more than the original game

When the game was presented at a press conference, it was already revealed that the remake includes new areas and side quests. Changes have also been made to allow James, the protagonist, to explore more buildings. Silent Hill 2 Remake opens the gates of the city with new technology, which encourages us to search for resources and discover the city’s secrets.

In their first impressions, the testers revealed that it not only did not break the game’s pace, but even strengthened it.

The Bloober Team goes one step further: “if you like to spend your time searching for everything that we put into the game and things we’ve hidden for you, it will take you more than 20h for sure. I’m not covering the new game plus and all endings, of course. I’m curious how fast will you get all of them,” said the aforementioned Mateusz Lenart via social media. In this sense, players get a much bigger game than they initially expected.

Whether or not this change will suit Silent Hill 2 Remake will only be a matter of pace. Adding more hours to a game isn’t practical if it’s not fun, and we can’t judge that yet. While this new content seemed very manageable in the opening part of the adventure, we don’t yet know where the experience will go in the rest of the title. Any doubts will be answered when the game is released on October 8 for PS5 and PC.
