PS5 Facing Stock Issues in China Following Black Myth: Wukong Launch

The PlayStation 5 has reportedly almost completely disappeared from store shelves in China after the release of the long-awaited Black Myth: Wukong game. According to industry expert Daniel Camilo, the consoles are selling fast in the country, even though big electronics stores like Huaqiangbei are unable to keep up with the extraordinary demand.

This growing interest has led to the return of secondary market sales and speculative sales of the PS5, which were less common after the first two years. Amidst the hype surrounding Black Myth: Wukong, there has also been controversy over influencers being asked to avoid political, COVID-19 and “feminist propaganda” comments in their reviews of the game.

Black Myth: Wukong, inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, was released on Tuesday for PC and PS5. Within hours of its release, it had already attracted more than 1.44 million concurrent players on Steam, making it the platform’s fourth largest game by concurrent players. On Thursday, the number already exceeded 2 million.

In terms of concurrent players, Wukong attracts more players than recent hits like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur’s Gate. Only Counter-Strike 2 (1.81 million), Palworld (2.1 million) and PUBG: Battlegrounds (3.25 million ) has multiple simultaneous players.
