While Take-Two, the game’s publisher, has already stated which platform Rockstar Games’ long-awaited game will be released on first, there’s another platform that could be important for the publisher hoping to make a lot of money.

A Brazilian-born insider with questionable credibility, NecroLipe, took to Twitter to talk about how much he’d like to see Bully and Grand Theft Auto V on a future Nintendo Direct. He received a response saying that GTA V, first released in 2013, will not be seen on the Nintendo Switch, but only on its yet-to-be-announced and rumored to be delayed (and not yet publicly christened) successor, because even though the hardware would be capable of the port, he says Rockstar and Take-Two are not willing to port it unless they can get Grand Theft Auto Online working on the Big N’s next-gen hardware. NecroLipe responded by saying that he thinks the focus for Grand Theft Auto VI will be directly on the Nintendo Switch 2 (which is by no means an official name).

It should be added that the Rage engine has already been ported to Arm-based devices. This engine was also used in Red Dead Redemption, which was eventually released on the Nintendo Switch. This opens up the possibility of other games running on this engine before the Switch or its successor. Rockstar has also officially confirmed that there will be a version optimized for the Xbox Series S, so they’re aiming to deliver adequate performance and resolution on the weaker console…

So the Nintendo Switch 2 could still be important for Rockstar and Take-Two, although we’ve already heard that the Japanese company’s new console is not as powerful as the Xbox Series S, so it won’t be an easy task for Rockstar if they are planning a port of Grand Theft Auto VI.
