A rumor has shed some light on why Game Science’s game hasn’t been released on Microsoft hardware in addition to Sony’s console and PC…
A Spanish insider, eXtas1s, took to Twitter to talk about why the action-RPG, which has set big sales and even bigger records, hasn’t yet appeared on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. At Gamescom, he spoke to Xbox insiders and other developers who told him that a technical glitch with the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong means the game hasn’t yet appeared on Microsoft’s consoles.
Black Myth: Wukong suffers from a memory leak. We see this in our PC web browser, where it suddenly uses much more RAM than expected. This can also happen with console games (and even PC ports/games can suffer from this). Memory leaks can cause the game to crash, which is bad for performance. Because of this, Black Myth: Wukong failed the Xbox bug tests, so the Xbox Series version has been delayed indefinitely, as Game Science needs to optimize the game for Microsoft hardware first.
The Chinese studio is now working hard to get rid of this bug (to boost the already over 10 million sales) so that they can get the certification from Microsoft. When that happens, they will set a release date for Black Myth: Wukong, but they don’t know when that will happen. If we ignore the memory leak, the game is basically ready for the Xbox Series pair.
Black Myth: Wukong was released on August 20th for PlayStation 5 and PC. It set a lot of records in a very short time, but let’s not forget that the result is not perfect (neither technically nor in terms of rating), we saw some very strange bans in exchange for Steam codes, and yet a dictatorship financed this game (via Tencent).
