A Harry Potter Game is Being Phased Out in the West!

Less than a year after the international launch of this title, publisher Warner is closing its doors, so it’s time to say goodbye.

In 2021, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was released in China and Taiwan on iOS and Android. In July 2023, in an unexpected twist, it was released worldwide, and the PC version arrived, though it was somewhat strangely limited, with servers restricted to Southeast Asia. But those who had already played on mobile were wrong, as the Warner account was not applicable to PC, as the Potter universe was ported to PC by NetEase, one of the Chinese tech giants. Outside of Asia, the Warner account is required…

“The time has come for Harry Potter: Magic Awakened to officially close its servers in the Americas, Europe and Oceania on October 29, 2024. The game will continue to be available to players in Asia, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as other select Asia and MENA territories,” reads a shutdown message on magicawakened.com. Harry Potter: Magic Awakened has already been removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, no purchases can be made in the game, and it will be available until October 29th. But there’s a twist for PC users…

Warner’s website, magicawakened.com, doesn’t tell you much, but if you go to harrypottermagicawakened.com you can find out more, as this site (and servers) is run by NetEase, you can get more info about the game and access the PC client here. Meanwhile, people on Reddit are already talking about having to jump from Warner’s servers to NetEase’s (mobile to PC), which means they’ll have to start all over again because of the other account. A lot of people are hoping that NetEase will open some servers in North America and Europe, but there’s not much chance of that.

The Harry Potter world is about to expand with a new game that will be included in the September PlayStation Plus Essential offering, as we reported the other day.
