Star Wars Outlaws players are upset with Ubisoft for making them restart their game on PS5 because of what they see as a “ridiculous” compensation. Several users who had early access through the Gold or Ultimate Editions lost hours of gameplay.
Ubisoft has stumbled upon some trouble with the launch of Star Wars Outlaws. Many fans who pre-ordered the Gold or Ultimate Editions to kick off Kay Vess’s journey three days early have been affected. The French developer alerted PS5 users that they would have to restart their game from scratch due to an unspecified issue, resulting in the loss of all their initial progress. Recently, Ubisoft reached out to the PlayStation community with an apology and compensation that many fans find inadequate.
As reported by the Vida Extra team, the issue has sparked some lively debates on Reddit. The situation escalated following an email from Ubisoft, shared by a user named BubbaJonesTheThird: “We are fully aware that asking you to start a new game is not the best experience, especially during the early access period, and we apologize for that.”
“To make your return to the Outer Rim that little bit more special, we’re offering you an in-game keychain for the Trailblazer, as well as 100 Ubisoft Connect Units (which can be redeemed for in-game rewards, for example),” the message continued. The community has been quick to criticize Ubisoft’s response, highlighting that players who spent over 100 euros on the special editions of Star Wars Outlaws feel let down by this attempt to compensate.
Indeed, the Reddit post by BubbaJonesTheThird includes several frustrated comments. Some players offered sympathy to those not prompted to restart, while others directed sharp criticism at Ubisoft: “Those credits are worthless. Essentially, anyone who paid to play early loses all their progress and has to start over, losing the benefit of early access” (buzz_shocker); “Yeah, the compensation is ridiculous. At the very least, they could have given us some materials to upgrade our vehicles and blasters a bit faster. But the game is still fun, and I hope no other bugs appear that break it” (00schneider). Whether Ubisoft, known for its Assassin’s Creed series, will offer better compensation remains to be seen.
