Paradox’s strategy game was released four years ago, and to celebrate, they’ve shared a few facts about the game.
It’s a historical strategy game where you control one of the ruling families of Eurasia to gain more power and influence in the region. Stupid wars, plague epidemics, and (if you have some spare time between two world-changing actions) you can pet your pet, which can be a dog or a cat. And a lot of people do, 11,578,957 people chose to take a break with their pet.
Paradoxically, cats are in the majority, with 6,175,718 people pampering them, compared to 5,403,239 people pampering dogs. The most popular regions are, unsurprisingly, the UK (where most people start), followed by France, Scandinavia, Byzantium, and Spain. Britain is more than 10 million ahead of France (24 vs. 14 million), while Spain is not far behind in fifth place (9.1 million). Interestingly, Byzantium made it to the top list without even having a unique mechanic until an update this year.
Of the pre-made characters available, the most popular was Petty King Murchad of Ireland. By the way, the last time Paradox released such statistics, we heard that players were 45% more likely to commit murder than fall in love. Anyway, last year was a pretty good one for Crusader Kings 3 fans, with the big September update allowing you to play as a landless adventurer and Byzantium getting its long-awaited expansion.
The best way to sum it up is that Crusader Kings 3 players don’t despise pets. The last time a similar topic came up was Baldur’s Gate 3 (interestingly, it’s another number three game, but not exactly the title we want to see, namely Half-Life 3…), and there it was similarly popular for players to pet the pets provided by Larian…
