TECH NEWS – Intel says it’s their most powerful x86 processor yet, and coupled with a hefty battery… it could prove to be a winning combination.

Intel held an event where they unveiled the Lunar Lake family of processors. It was here that the company confirmed that the MSI Claw would be getting a new version, and this one would use the Lunar Lake CPU. Black and gray, with a more attractive design than the first model had. It has an 8″ (20.32 cm) display, which is why the new version has the number eight in its name. MSI only provided one game at the event, so the only one playable was Hi-Fi Rush (we wrote about the Tango Gameworks game, which is in new hands as well as the studio). It doesn’t have much in the way of system requirements, but Lunar Lake’s new Xe2 GPU seems to do the trick.

According to Damien Triolet, the GPU’s technical marketing director, the Xe2 scales well when it comes to lowering power consumption, so it’s pretty good for heat-sensitive designs. Since it’s a handheld PC, it’s a good match for the products that revolutionized the industry with Lunar Lake and Steam Deck. In PCGamer’s experience, the handheld is bulky, but has easily accessible buttons and two tiny triggers on the back.

The design may change a bit. The device on display had an ES (engineering sample, not yet finalized) version of the Lunar Lake processor from the Core Ultra 200V family. But the main thing is that the battery was 80Wh. The Claw 7, MSI’s original handheld PC, had a 53Wh battery, so with this boost, it’s on par with the Asus ROG Ally X. The device is scheduled to be released sometime in January, and until then it might be worth waiting for the test results, because who knows how much of an improvement it will end up being over the MSI Claw 7 with the Meteor Lake processor.

So it’s too early to bury it or praise it to the skies…
