Ballistic Moon’s game (which isn’t entirely theirs…) is still a while away, but we’re already hearing that some people have lost their jobs at the studio, and that’s not very hopeful news.
We’re still a month away from the release of the remake of the otherwise excellent PlayStation 4 exclusive Until Dawn on PlayStation 5 and PC, but already we’re reading on LinkedIn that Ballistic Moon has made the difficult decision to downsize its team in order to secure the future of the studio. It has not been disclosed how many people have been let go, but some of the developers involved have confirmed on social media that they are looking for new jobs after Ballistic Moon got rid of them…
Harry Williams wrote that he had two exciting years working on the Until Dawn remake, but unfortunately the studio no longer needed his work and he no longer has the technical design position. Kshitij Gupta wrote that he lost his animation job on the team. He worked with a team of excellent and talented developers for over a year. Rudi Prentice, who was previously one of the gameplay programmers, has also confirmed that Ballistic Moon no longer needs his work.
The Until Dawn remake may not be so weak as to disappoint us, but it’s still shocking that the studio’s game (originally developed by Supermassive Games) is still not in our hands, and we’re already hearing that some people have been laid off. If the game had been released and not been a critical success, we could understand the layoffs, but this is a much sadder story. Lest the next news about the studio be that it is closing down. We can almost imagine it.
Until Dawn Remake, which runs on Unreal Engine 5, will bring the 2015 PlayStation 4 exclusive to PlayStation 5 and PC from October 4.
