Black Myth: Wukong: Is the Xbox Delay Due to Reasons Other Than Hardware Limitations?

Microsoft says it is not to blame for the fact that Chinese Game Science’s hit game is not yet available on the Xbox Series console duo.

Black Myth: Wukong has reached 2.41 million concurrent players on Steam, although the fact that China still has a huge player base is a big factor. Still, it climbed to second place on the leaderboards, beaten only by PUBG: Battlegrounds. The game was released for PC and PlayStation 5, and we wrote that its performance on consoles might be a bit problematic due to the old Unreal Engine. But where is the Xbox Series port? Well, it’s not because of an exclusivity deal that it’s nowhere to be found: last week we heard rumors that the port was having problems due to a memory leak…

Forbes was able to get a word from a Microsoft spokesperson who denied that the Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S version of Black Myth: Wukong was delayed due to technical glitches: “As we’ve said before, we’re excited to launch Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We prefer not to comment on our partners’ deals with other platform holders, but we can confirm that the delay is not due to any Xbox platform limitations that we’ve been made aware of”.

This is a very odd situation. Could it be that there is some kind of exclusivity deal between Game Science and Sony? After all, Sony has a Chinese developer incubator program, so the relationship between the company and developers in that country should not be considered weak. We also reported last time that the game could get up to two DLCs, after which the studio could start developing a sequel.

If we’re lucky, Black Myth: Wukong will be released for the Xbox Series duo in the fall, but it wouldn’t be a big surprise if it doesn’t happen.
