TECH NEWS – Sony has released an image to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation, and the focus is on a new PS5 design that hints at the Pro version.
It looks like PlayStation is really up to something. All signs point to the announcement of the PS5 Pro, which has been rumoured for some time to be released in a few months. Sony has been working on a new and more powerful version of the PlayStation 5 for years. Now, it looks like the Japanese company may have shown off the design in a promotional image for the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation.
PlayStation posted an image on its official blog in connection with the company’s 30th anniversary (see below). The design of a new PS5 can be seen in the middle of the picture. Although nothing is official yet, the community is linking this aspect to the PS5 Pro. Looking at the rest of the picture, we can see accessories, consoles, and peripherals that PlayStation has already launched. But the middle figure is something new that we haven’t seen before. Below is another image that gives you even more details on what the PS5 Pro might look like.
Last week, Dealabs via billbil-kun reported that the PS5 Pro is real and will be announced very soon, in the first half of September.
He also claimed that it could be released in November 2024. Also, its design will have three black bars, which is the same as what Sony showed in the image above today. In addition to all this, Sony writes the following in its blog post: “As we celebrate 30 years of play, these upcoming activities and releases are just a taste of what’s to come. Be on the lookout for more announcements in the near future,” – it reads.
How much might the Sony updated console cost, and what features does it have?
We might not have expected this “reveal,” but we already reported on the features of the PS5 Pro months ago. First of all, it may come with a new technology that allows games to be upscaled from 1080p to 4K. This would be called PSSR and would be somewhat similar to NVIDIA’s DLSS. The highlight is that it would be backwards compatible with existing PS5 games via patches. According to Digital Foundry, “this is potentially incredible,” and Sony is aware of it.
So much so that we may still see the term “PS5 Pro Enhanced” often, which means that a game has been upgraded to the new PS5 version. This requires developers to create a dedicated graphics mode for the new console that features a stable 60 FPS and ray tracing and uses PSSR to scale to 4K resolution. This is also due to the fact that the RAM will be 28% faster, the GPU 45% faster, and the CPU 10% faster than the regular PS5 version. Moreover, rendering will be twice as fast!
According to a report from Insider Gaming, PlayStation wants to make a historic leap in graphics. For this, they will use their new technology (PSSR), which in the long term would aim to achieve 4K/120 FPS and 8K/60 FPS on future consoles. It wasn’t mentioned, and it’s not entirely clear, but the PS5 Pro may land without an integrated optical drive to keep costs down.
Pricing is a complete mystery. But according to analysts speaking to IGN, for example, Serkan Toto, it may cost 600 or 650 dollars when it goes on sale in November. Niko Parters’ Daniel Ahmad said he doesn’t expect any price cuts like the PS4. This generation is different from the previous one. It has also been revealed that the PS5 Pro will benefit from the 2025 debut of GTA VI. But it will probably still represent only 10-15% of final sales at the end of the life cycle. These numbers are similar to those achieved by the PlayStation 4 Pro.
