PlayStation 5 Pro: Is Sony Kicking Its Marketing Into High Gear?

Another rumor has surfaced about the still unannounced half-generation console update, but this time we’re hearing more specific details.

Lunatic Ignus, who recently hit the news with another rumor about Black Myth: Wukong (the game will be in the news later today for official info…), was talking about the PlayStation 5 Pro this time. He was right about State of Play back in May, so he might have some connection to Sony. Anyway, Discordon said that he thinks the more powerful PlayStation 5 model will be unveiled by Sony sometime next week.

That would give Sony about the same mid-September date that has been mentioned several times lately. There could be talk of a PlayStation Pro sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday, followed by a State of Play broadcast later in the month (presumably before the Tokyo Game Show) showing off internally developed first-party games and possibly a world premiere, although it’s possible that Sony could push this off until December to finally be discussed at The Game Awards.

Last week, we reported on another leaker, billbil-kun’s rumor that Sony was also preparing for the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro in a big way, and had already seen the packaging of the console (revealing that it will look similar to the current, redesigned model currently available), and that developers at Gamescom were already keeping the platform an open secret, which we wrote yesterday is not cheap to produce and therefore Sony will have to be somewhat frugal.

Beyond the PlayStation 5 Pro, it’s really time for Sony to show what games it has in store for next year, as it’s essentially a blank slate at the moment. We know about Marvel’s Wolverine, but beyond that we don’t see many studios saying what they’re working on. There will probably be no mention of Concord during the State of Play, which is on hiatus as of today (and thus has one of the fastest live service failures…).
