Ubisoft Shares Plunge: Another 7% Drop Under Yves Guillemot’s Leadership

Shareholders are already worried about the future of the French publisher, and it’s no wonder, because Ubisoft hasn’t been on a stable footing lately.

Several Ubisoft games have been a bit weak this year, to say the least. The most recent on the list was Star Wars Outlaws, which received fair reviews from the press, but they probably did not pay much attention to the bugs in the game. Star Wars fans did, and they didn’t like Massive Entertainment’s creation very much. Ubisoft also suffered on the stock market after the game’s release, with the French company’s share price plummeting to a 10-year low, even recording a 7% drop.

This time, the fall came after a major minority shareholder, AJ Investments, demanded that Ubisoft go private and use French minority law to gather enough shareholders to launch a proxy fight and begin the sale process. In addition, this company is also demanding that the current management be replaced and a new CEO be put in charge of Ubisoft to optimize costs and the structure of the studios in order to create a more agile and competitive company worthy of the Ubisoft name.

While Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was mostly good, it couldn’t make up for the failures of Star Wars Outlaws and XDefiant. The latter may even lose its post-launch support, and as a live service game that needs a consistently high player base and doesn’t have it, chances are that Ubisoft will cite its financial situation to kill the shooter, which should be in a stronger state for its third season.

In its open letter, AJ Investments says that Ubisoft is an undervalued company that should have a share price of 40-45 euros (and currently had a negative record of 13.31 euros) and suggests that Ubisoft should delist and Tencent should be the company’s partner in the future. He also mentioned cutting costs and optimizing the number of employees… so more layoffs could happen.
