Palworld: Is PocketPair’s Popular Game Coming Soon to a New Platform?

The organizer of the Tokyo Game Show has revealed that Palworld, which burst onto the scene to great acclaim earlier this year, will soon be coming to another console.

Gematsu has discovered that the organizers of the Tokyo Game Show, Japan’s Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association, have listed that a PlayStation 5 version of Palworld will be on display. This could be a mistake, of course, but considering the statements PocketPair made about the game, it seems more like a slip of the tongue than a mistake (admittedly, there was an error in the Tokyo Game Show agenda in English; the word future was spelled futuer).

Palworld was released on Steam Early Access in January and also on the Xbox Series/Xbox One duo (Xbox Game Preview), and according to the Japanese developers it attracted 25 million players in its first month, a figure that hasn’t been matched since, but the studio’s CEO used to say that this was natural because you can’t play the same game over and over again, so he wasn’t worried that many people would switch to something else later in the year.

PocketPair CEO Mizobe Takuro said in March that the studio was in talks to port Palworld to other platforms. Nintendo was ruled out at the time, as the Nintendo Switch is not a strong platform, leaving Sony. In June, Palworld’s community manager hinted on Twitter that a PlayStation 5 port of the game was in the works, and shortly after that Mizobe added that they were still discussing ports and had nothing to announce, but he also expressed doubts about a Nintendo Switch version.

And in July, PocketPair said that they had teamed up with Sony to expand their Palworld-based deal, so it could be more than just a game, as they had an agreement for international licensing and merchandise. So it’s very likely that the PlayStation 5 port is coming…
