Remedy Entertainment recently announced that it is working with Annapurna Interactive to produce TV/film adaptations of several of its franchises (and is co-financing Control 2); how involved is the Finnish studio in the Annapurna affair?
Annapurna Interactive has an agreement with Remedy to fund the development of Control 2 on a 50/50 basis, while Control and Alan Wake will also be adapted into transmedia series in the future. Just this week, news broke that Annapurna Enteractive employees have resigned! It’s no wonder that many people contacted the Finns to say something, as they are also a bit worried about what will happen with their new partner after Remedy dropped Epic Games Publishing…
Thomas Puha, Remedy Entertainment’s Director of Communications, took to Twitter to calm things down. He wrote that they have received many inquiries about the events surrounding Annapurna. He thanked them for their concern and interest and confirmed that Control 2, as well as the audiovisual rights to Alan Wake and Control, are NOT owned by Annapurna Interactive, but by Annapurna Pictures, and that Remedy will self-publish Control 2. So they got away with it because they didn’t shake hands with the very subsidiary that collapsed this week…
Many of you are reaching out about the news around Annapurna (sorry to see what is going on to all involved ) Interactive. Thank you for your care! Remedy’s deal for Control 2, including Alan Wake and Control AV rights, is with Annapurna Pictures, and we are self-publishing…

So Remedy got away with it, so they can move on with the second DLC for Alan Wake 2, The Lake House. Control 2 is in development, the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake is in development for Rockstar, and there’s also a project based on the Control IP called Condor, which will be a multiplayer spin-off. In May, development was halted on Kestrel (formerly codenamed Vanguard), which was originally going to be a free-to-play game with Tencent, then rebranded to a paid (premium) model, and finally halted.
It should also be mentioned that Annapurna Interactive’s projects (such as Wanderstop and Mixtape) are reportedly not involved in what is happening within the company. We hope that this is indeed the case.
