Instagram Launches New Accounts Tailored for Teens! [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – Meta is trying to keep younger users in check with an innovation designed to increase their safety.

Instagram has introduced a new safety net that puts users under the age of eighteen into much more restricted and private accounts, regardless of how long they’ve been using this interface on Meta. The platform has become quite popular over the past few years, and many of its users are minors and teenagers. And parents are worried because they don’t know where the ‘Instagramming’ could go. That is why Mark Zuckerberg’s company introduced Teen Accounts.

Restrictions were automatically put in place for underage users. All accounts are set to private by default, and there are much stricter limits on receiving private messages from strangers. There’s also a sleep mode feature that mutes notifications between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. to force users under 18 to go to bed and not just use Instagram.

Teens will also be able to set topics that are relevant to their age group, which will appear either in the recommended section of Instagram or in the Explore tab. There will also be warnings not to use the platform all the time, so it will sometimes be closed. Meta is actively working to keep teenage users in check and ensure that their parents have the ability to see their activities. Parents can also see who their child has messaged in the last seven days and what topics they have viewed.

Those over the age of 16 can change certain settings, but younger children need parental permission to make changes. Teen accounts are currently being rolled out in the UK, US, Canada and Australia. Instagram can already authenticate age in a number of ways (such as uploading an ID card or a selfie video), and AI can do this as well, but it requires a multi-layered approach to be accurate.

What Meta does is not stupid.
