Indeed, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is working on a pirate-themed game, and this time we get a side story (since the Japanese title of the game has the word Gaiden in it, which is exactly what it means…).
A new legend begins as you step into the steel-toed boots of Goro Majima, a man who has lost his memory and is reinventing himself as a pirate on the high seas. Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza-turned-pirate captain and his crew as they engage in exhilarating battles on land and sea in search of lost memories and a legendary treasure. Goro Majima, a notorious ex-yakuza, suddenly finds himself shipwrecked on a remote island in the Pacific. Unable to remember even his own name, he sets sail in search of clues to his lost memories, accompanied by a boy named Noah who saved his life. Before long, they’re caught up in a conflict between cutthroat criminals, modern-day pirates, and other scoundrels over a legendary treasure.
Assemble a unique crew and upgrade your ship as you explore the open seas and forge your legend in the cannon fire of enemies, unexpected friendships, and immense riches. When an enemy pirate ship sets its sights on you, an exhilarating real-time cannon battle ensues. Quickly maneuver into position while dodging fire, then inflict devastating damage to board the enemy ship and take down the captain in all-out crew versus crew battles. Conquer the oceans, discover hidden islands, and acquire loads of loot like a true Yakuza pirate! Dynamically switch between “Mad Dog” and “Pirate” fighting styles to mix up your attacks and perform explosive combos, juggling and aerial takedowns that reward your creativity with over-the-top action. With the Mad Dog style, use speed, agility, and flair to deliver precise yet powerful punches that knock your opponents into submission. Or make your enemies walk the plank with the “Pirate” style, where you wield two short swords and use tricky pirate tools to steal some serious loot. In addition to his signature Mad Dog style, which is all about speed, Majima can also use his new Sea Dog style to wield a cutlass and other pirate gear. Pick the style that works best for you to kick, punch and slash your way through the filthy bilge rats that stand in your way!
After losing his memory, Goro Majima, once a feared legend in the yakuza world, sets sail in search of treasure. Half a year after teaming up with Kiryu for a massive battle in the Millenium Tower, Goro Majima washes up on the shore of a remote, sparsely populated island with the wreckage of a boat. With no memories – not even his own name – Majima joins forces with Noah, the young islander who saved his life, and embarks on a search for clues to his forgotten past. But what awaits them is a powder-keg world where villains vie for a legendary treasure.
Goro Majima (voiced by Hidenari Ugaki) is the patriarch of the Majima family of the former Tojo Clan. An ex-yakuza with no memories who washed ashore on a remote island. Noah Rich (voiced by First Summer Uika) is a local boy on Rich Island. A youth who dreams of the outside world and hopes to leave the confines of Rich Island. Jason Rich (voiced by Kenji Matsuda) is the bar owner on Rich Island and Noah’s father. A former treasure hunter, he is a drunk but still a true sea dog. Masaru Fujita (voiced by Ryuji Akiyama (Robert)) is a bodyguard and ship’s cook. A skilled cook for hire who has sailed the seas on a long line of pirate ships. Teruhiko Shigaki (voiced by Munetaka Aoki) is the patriarch of the former Tojo Clan’s Shigaki family. An ex-yakuza with no memories who washed ashore on a remote island. Rodriguez (voiced by Ayumi Tanida) is a Palekana disciple. A burly warrior who guards Nele Island, Palekana’s holy site, with his massive sword. Mortimer (voiced by Shunsuke Daitoh) is the leader of the Mortimer Armada. A handsome pirate with a charismatic personality that inspires fervor in the lowlifes around him. Goro is Noah’s little friend. An adorable little cat (?) that Noah found on Rich Island.
Rich Island is a remote island where an amnesiac named Goro Majima washes up. Noah and his family are some of the few inhabitants of the island. Although fishing is the mainstay of the local economy, pirates reminiscent of the Age of Discovery are inexplicably seen wandering around. Madlantis is a secret island where several criminal organizations coexist. Hidden in a cave on the island is a sprawling entertainment district built around a fleet of massive tankers. The Pirates’ Coliseum, a hub where pirates constantly engage in sea battles, is located here. Nele Island is a sacred site for the Palekana, an ancient religious group based in Hawaii. The island is home to the Haku, Palekana’s most ardent followers. The island is considerably larger than Rich Island and has a proper harbor. Hawaii is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world. You can learn a lot about Hawaii from the owner of a bar called Revolve in Honolulu City.
