Dragon Age: The Veilguard: The Rebalancing of Returning Characters is Unmissable!

The returning characters couldn’t just be shoehorned into Dragon Age 4, which doesn’t leave out the romance, and there can be some pretty juicy stuff here, too…

John Epler, creative director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, told IGN that there was never a single concept from the game that didn’t involve Solas. Although he only appeared in Dragon Age: Inquisition, he’s an iconic character who was a kind, mysterious companion in the previous game and now has a major role in The Veilguard. The backstory is what happened in the Trespasser DLC in Dragon Age: Inquisition. The concept of The Veilguard has changed a lot since then. There were several story concepts, including one where we didn’t get very far in the fight against the Solas.

The protagonist, Rook, was essentially designed to be the antithesis of Solas. So there could be a lot of interaction and dialog between Rook and Solas that could expand the relationship between the two. BioWare has also been asked in the past how they decide who is going to be in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and they came up with the question of whether they have a story to tell, because they don’t want to rush someone back just so we can point at them and say we know them. For example, Morrigan is coming back, not to mention the main character in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

And director Corinne Busche talked about the relationship scenes: “Some of them are very sensual. Some of them are more physical, some of them are more romantic, some of them are more spicy. You may or may not wake up in a coffin. The players fell in love with Lace Harding, and we heard them. When I got to that scene and saw the finished version of that cinematic with Taash, I screamed. Screamed. I really get the opportunity to get to know [Neve], whether it’s platonic or romantic, I’m going to help shape her skills and enhance those skills that work really well with my own personal makeup.

You’re going to develop trust, understanding. That doesn’t mean you’re always going to agree… I like to think of relationships not necessarily in terms of how much they like you, but how well you know them. Every family has their fights, but this is really about developing your understanding of each member of the Veilguard, and that in turn will allow them to work better as a team,” Busche said.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is scheduled for release on October 31st for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
