Ubisoft Says ‘No Agenda’ in Assassin’s Creed Shadows!

The French publisher defends itself after the delay of the Assassin’s Creed story set in feudal Japan…

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that while Assassin’s Creed Shadows won’t be released this year, there will be two games set in feudal Japan in 2025, as during the State of Play coverage Sony announced Sucker Punch’s next game Ghost of Yotei, which will be coming to PlayStation 5 next year.

According to Guillemot, there’s plenty of room for quality games, and both titles should do well. He believes that the next Assassin’s Creed will stand out from its competitors because it will have two protagonists and therefore two different play styles. Insider Gaming also reported on Guillemot’s internal memo to employees regarding the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Guillemot justified the delay with the need to release games of the highest possible quality on launch day, something the French company failed to achieve with Star Wars Outlaws, which we’ve already heard initial sales are nowhere near expectations. While he didn’t mention the Japanese AC by name, Guillemot also took a moment to mention the company’s creative decisions. These are not dictated by any agenda, because as an entertainment company, Ubisoft’s mission is “to entertain players and enrich their lives with original and memorable experiences that will impact a global audience”. Regardless, in terms of historical authenticity, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is indeed a far cry from Ghost of Yotes, although who knows, Ubisoft can REALLY prove us wrong. We recently wrote about Sucker Punch and how they went to Hokkaido.

So, as a result of the delay, Ubisoft has also thrown Assassin’s Creed Shadows into the ridiculously packed February (several high-profile launches!), coming out on February 14th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and Amazon Luna.
