Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra: Standing Up for Independence!

Skydance New Media’s game takes an approach that will make it stand out among franchise-based IPs!

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will take place over the course of one year in a unique setting, and it’s unlikely that Wakanda will be part of the game. The fact that it’s set in 1943 limits the potential for a sequel, but it could be that Skydance decided to do this on purpose because it could have been conceived as a one-off story by Amy Hennig (Uncharted!), and therefore they don’t care what happens after the credits roll. So it wants to be a standalone game that doesn’t rely on sequels and spin-offs, and we don’t see much of that from Disney-owned Marvel these days!

The game’s title openly states that it’s set in World War II (including Nazi-occupied Paris… also). It would be difficult for Skydance to make a full series out of this, and I’m not even sure what the company has in mind. Keep in mind that Steve Rogers’ Captain America is frozen during the war and thawed out in the present day, so there’s a chance that Skydance will eventually do a scene about that after the credits. And that could be the start of an Avengers game, similar to how the pieces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe puzzle have been put together.

Skydance has designed the game in an exciting way, as there will be four playable characters, each with a different play style. If this were to lead to a sequel, what would make Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra would be lost. Hawkeye and Black Widow may be part of the Avengers team, but they are still more popular than Gabriel Jones and Nanali.

By the way, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will be published by Plaion in 2025, and interestingly, neither Embracer’s company nor Skydance New Media have yet announced what the target platforms are!
