Depending on which camera mode you pick, the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake could be a walk in the park or a serious challenge. Make sure to choose wisely, as you won’t be able to change it later! The game offers two modes: Legacy, with the classic view, and New Style, which pulls the camera closer to Snake’s shoulder, making things a bit easier.
Though there have been plenty of remakes over the years, Metal Gear Solid 3 stands out as one of the strangest. Not only does it begin with an intermediate chapter, but it also lacks the involvement of its original creator. The new version, titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, doesn’t have a release date yet, but Konami has continued to reveal surprises. Most notably, the third-person camera choice will impact both gameplay and difficulty.
In a recent interview with Famitsu (translated by Automaton), Production Producer Noriaki Okamura and Creative Producer Yuji Korekado talked about the remake’s improvements over the 2004 original. The highlight is the new “New Style” camera, similar to the third-person mode from Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, but now much closer to Snake’s shoulder.
You can only choose once which camera mode you’ll play with. You won’t be locked into the new style if you prefer the classic look, as players can choose between Legacy Style or New Style. However, you can’t switch once you’ve made your choice, so you’ll be stuck with your decision for the entire game.
The reason for this restriction is related to difficulty. According to Korekado, the “New Style” makes the game easier by offering a wider field of view and the ability to shoot while moving. The improved AI and Snake’s more responsive controls also make the experience more accessible.
On the other hand, Legacy Style offers a gameplay challenge similar to the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. While it benefits from the remake’s updates, the classic perspective will offer a more difficult and tactical experience.
