The studio, funded by Krafton (known for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, now PUBG Battlegrounds, and The Callisto Protocol; they will create the mobile version of Palworld) and 1Up Ventures, is developing a completely original game.
The studio is called Day 4 Night, and its founders include Christian Cantamessa and Davide Solani. Cantamessa was the lead designer and writer on Red Dead Redemption, and Solani was the creative director on the Mario + Rabbids franchise. The studio’s goal is to push the boundaries of storytelling and game design, and they’re already trying to do that with their first game. The first round of funding came from Krafton and 1Up Ventures. The latter was founded by Xbox co-founder Ed Fries.
Cantamessa and Soliani will be joined by Cristina Nava, Gian Marco Zanna and Luca Breda. They have previously worked on several major franchises (Mario + Rabbids, Just Dance, Ghost Recon, Star Wars). Day 4 Night will create a completely original new game, but it’s too early to speculate what genre it will be in, when it will be released, and for what…
“When I first fell in love with video games early in my career, I saw the power of this new medium to tell stories never before told and to create worlds that could change people. Day 4 Night is a return to that innovative spirit, to that innocence, to that unbridled creativity,” said Cantamessa in a press release. “What we’re creating in Day 4 Night is a reflection of everything I’ve ever wanted to experience as a gamer – joy, adventure, poetry, action, wonder, and the pleasure of working with friends. It’s a lullaby for my soul and a serenade to our industry, to the magic and madness of creating worlds out of nothing. It’s a story of triumphs, challenges, and dreams that illuminate the path we walk together,” Soliani added.
“Day 4 Night’s pitch presented a highly engaging and compelling story. The game’s vision stands out as both original and creative, making it a great fit for the type of studios we want to support at Krafton. It aligns well with our mission to ‘Scale up the Creative’,” said Maria Park, Vice President and Head of Corporate Development at Krafton. “When you see a lot of pitches like we do, it’s always incredibly fun to hear an idea that’s completely new and original. This was easily the most creative thing we have seen in a long time,” said Ed Fries.
Good luck to the developers.
