So it wasn’t a coincidence what we saw in the remake of Ballistic Moon (although technically, our personal definition of Until Dawn Remake, released last week for PlayStation 5 and PC, leans more towards a remaster…).
Peter Stormare (Fargo, Armageddon, Constantine) essentially made it seem like a reality on Instagram that Until Dawn 2 exists. He re-posted something from a fan site, Unti Dawn News, which speculated that the sequel was confirmed by a new ending scene from the remake (we reported this before!). The actor played the character of Dr. Alan J. Hill in the game, and he will also play the doctor in the movie adaptation, which was primarily shot in Budapest. The film is being directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle 2: Creation, Shazam!), and it would make sense that if Stormare played Doctor Hill in the first film and the sequel, he would be cast as him in the sequel.
Sony is obviously putting a lot of money into the Until Dawn IP. After all, there is the remake on Unreal Engine 5 (although it was sad when we had to report that Ballistic Moon had been canceled, even though the remake was still in the pipeline), although the reception of that doesn’t seem to be very good, as it’s a bit expensive and, as we reported before, the PC version is a bit weak, as the ray tracing doesn’t seem to work at all.
If Until Dawn 2 is indeed going to be made, Sony has an important question to answer: who will develop it? The original PlayStation 4 installment was developed by Supermassive Games, but they’re currently producing The Dark Pictures Anthology for Bandai Namco, so they probably don’t have the capacity. That leaves Ballistic Moon, but since they recently had a major staff downsizing, it seems unlikely that they’ll be the ones to start a sequel.
A sequel to Until Dawn is not official yet.
