Demon’s Souls on PS5 Pro: Visual Enhancements Confirmed, But Don’t Expect Huge Changes

One of the most graphically impressive remakes is getting an exclusive upgrade on the PS5 Pro, but don’t expect significant changes to Demon’s Souls. Bluepoint Games’ RPG is incorporating an updated shadow system and will reach stable 4K resolution with 60 FPS.

One of the biggest launch titles for the PS5 four years ago was the remake of Demon’s Souls. This 2009 title from FromSoftware was given a complete overhaul and pushed beyond the limits of its original version, establishing Bluepoint Games as more than just a remaster studio. Now, with the PS5 Pro just around the corner, not only do we know that this action RPG will receive an update for the new PlayStation hardware, but we’ve also seen some of the graphical improvements that will be included, such as a more advanced lighting system.

Thanks to Digital Foundry, who got early access to a preview version, we’ve seen that Bluepoint Games’ remake looks stunning and includes a feature that fully takes advantage of the PS5 Pro’s enhanced capabilities. While experts agree that the game’s graphics and performance will be improved, they caution players not to expect a drastic leap.

The PS5 Version of Demon’s Souls Was Already Impressive

The Demon’s Souls Remake, which wowed players on the standard PS5, now includes a new Pro display mode for the PS5 Pro, offering stable 4K resolution while maintaining a consistent 60 FPS. This new mode combines elements from the original Performance and Cinematic modes that were available in 2020. However, the 4K resolution is achieved using PlayStation’s upscaling technology. “Visually, it almost looks like true 4K, though it’s a little less sharp. Still, it holds up well, even up close,” according to Digital Foundry analyst Oliver Mackenzie.

In addition, the game has implemented enhanced tessellation technology, which increases the density of on-screen elements, giving the world of Demon’s Souls more detail and life. A new contact shadow system has also been introduced, surpassing the spatial shadows of the original version, and providing more realistic environments, from castles to landscapes and characters.

Digital Foundry concludes its preview by noting that while Demon’s Souls is already one of the most visually impressive games on the PS5, the PS5 Pro version may not bring the level of improvement some players might have hoped for. “It’s one of the games that needed these enhancements the least,” the team concluded.
