MOVIE NEWS – Dennis Quaid’s ex-fiancée reacted to the actor’s appearance at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in California on Saturday…
Lea Thompson, who played Lorraine Baines-McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy, dated and was engaged to Quaid from 1984 to 1987. On X, Thompson responded to a video of Quaid at a rally at Coachella, writing, “I was engaged to him,” alongside a confused face emoji. He also included the hashtags #VoteBlueToStopTheStupid and #crimeisactuallydown.
Quaid plays former US President Ronald Reagan in Sean McNamara’s Reagan biopic released this August. The actor called Reagan his “favorite president of the 20th century” and drew parallels between the current political situation and Reagan’s first election victory.
“It’s amazing how the issues of the 1980 election are very similar to what they are today,” he said, recalling the then-record high inflation and the Iranian hostage crisis.
“We were a nation in decline. That’s what they told us. Ronald Reagan came along and said, no, we’re not a nation in decline. We’re going there. And we followed him,” said Quaid pointing up. “The same with Trump, with President Trump. My favorite president of the 21st century.”
Dennis Quaid has been a longtime Trump supporter, and there were even rumors that he was paid to appear in a $300 million pro-Trump coronavirus ad campaign in 2020, which he denied. Appearing on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored show earlier this year, Quaid argued that Trump deserves a second term in office because he is “sincere.”
“He stands up to people, and that’s what makes him a leader,” said the actor. “So, you know, people might call him an a**hole, but he’s my a**hole.”
He continued: “I really feel he is working for the American people. That’s what he’s all about and I do believe that to be true and sincere.”
The actor’s older brother, Randy Quaid, who played another former US president, Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson, in the movie LBJ: The Early Years, is also an outspoken Trump supporter.
