MOVIE NEWS – Harrison Ford is never subtle: he gave an honest opinion about this popular theory…
Harrison Ford doesn’t believe there are no more movie stars in Hollywood. After working in the film industry for the past six decades, Ford clearly has no intention of slowing down. The Star Wars actor is about to make his MCU debut as Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. Throughout his career, he has appeared in many hit films such as The Fugitive, Air Force One and most recently in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking.
Ford is undeniably a movie star, but some say he’s one of the last of an endangered breed. When asked by GQ what he thought about Hollywood no longer producing movie stars, he called it “rubbish” and defended the industry by saying that good actors rise to the top every day.
“Oh, I think it’s rubbish.”
“I don’t think the question is whether or not there are any movie stars. There’s wonderful actors coming up every day. Whether or not they become movie stars is really not the point. If movies need stars, they will find them. I’ve never f**king understood being a movie star. I’m part of a group of people who work together. I’m an assistant storyteller I am.”
Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, and Austin Butler, to name a few, have all become instantly recognizable in recent years and led some hugely successful films along with more. There are still stars who help create an audience for a movie. I wonder how much revenue Anyone But You would have brought if not for the duo of Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney playing the leading role?
Who does Harrison Ford play in the MCU?
Ford takes on the role of Thaddeus Ross, replacing William Hurt, who played the role from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk to 2021’s Black Widow but sadly passed away in 2022. It’s no secret that Ford’s character will transform into the Red Hulk in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. He’s talked before about how much fun it was to become the Hulk. However, it is unclear what direction the MCU plans to take this character. Also, whether he will appear in future MCU films. Ford is 82 years old, so he’s by no means a modern-day chicken, and he’s unlikely to take on a gruelling multi-film schedule. However, since the Red Hulk is a CGI character, Ford’s next move in the MCU will likely depend on whether or not Ross remains the Hulk’s alter ego, similar to Mark Ruffalo’s extended time as the “Smart Hulk” in recent years.
After the debut of Brave New World, there is no telling where the character of Thaddeus Ross may appear next. The character has always been more associated with the less fantastical side of Marvel’s output. We saw him in movies like Captain America: Civil War, but he also appeared in several Avengers movies. At the moment, it is questionable whether next year’s Thunderbolts* will appear – in the Marvel comics, the group was named after Ross. Where else he can appear – either in human form or as the Hulk’s counterpart – is probably only known to Kevin Feige for now.
