Exodus: Understanding Mara-Yama and the Nature of Fear [VIDEO]

Archetype Entertainment’s question is rhetorical about their sci-fi action-adventure RPG, which introduces a rather scary creature.

Exodus, developed by Archetype Entertainment, an Austin-based studio of Hasbro Digital Games, just got a new cinematic trailer, The Mara-Yama. In the spirit of Halloween, the developers thought they would kick off October with a scary new reveal. Prepare to meet the most terrifying enemy yet – if you dare. Navigating the Centauri is no easy task, with many powerful enemies whose technological ingenuity far exceeds our own waiting to wipe us out. Humanity must navigate this dark and dangerous science fiction universe with extreme caution. Among the most terrifying threats are the celestial beings we call the Mara-Yama. No one knows what the Mara-Yama call themselves. They have no known territory or homeworld, living in massive space citadels hidden in desolate regions of space. Wait. Hunting.

In Exodus, humanity, having fled a dying Earth, has found a new home in a hostile galaxy – where we are the underdogs, fighting for survival. Players assume the role of The Traveler, humanity’s last hope. Your mission is to travel to distant stars to steal alien weapons and technology from the most powerful enemy in the universe: the Celestials. But there is a catch – time dilation. Days for the Travelers on interstellar missions are decades at home. The sacrifices players make to protect their loved ones will affect their entire civilization for generations to come. Upon returning home, players must face the consequences of their choices and decide: How much are they willing to sacrifice?

How does this mysterious observer know so much about mankind’s most feared predator? How has this seemingly omniscient spokesman mastered the art of survival? Who is he? A traveler? Perhaps. But if so, why is he an observer sharing his valuable insights rather than a warrior bearing the scars of humanity’s battles? He is an outsider, yet one of our world, one who knows many far-reaching secrets… yet his insight is pointed and personal. Is his purpose to guide the travelers? To warn us? Or is his purpose something beyond what we can even imagine? His words stir the soul and leave one questioning their humanity and the consequences we bring to the dark void between the stars. C.C. Orlev is the self-proclaimed spokesman for Exodus. In the game, you will learn more about this infamous Centauri citizen as your travels as a traveler take you to distant worlds and strange new adventures.

Exodus is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC with no release date announced.
