MOVIE NEWS – Beatles ’64, the brand-new documentary produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi, will be available exclusively on Disney+ starting November 29, 2024. The film presents exciting moments from the Beatles’ first visit to America, with never-before-seen footage of the band and their young fans. It showcases how the Beatles became the most influential and popular band of all time.
On February 7, 1964, the Beatles arrived in New York amidst unprecedented fan hysteria. From the moment they landed at Kennedy Airport, where thousands of fans greeted them, “Beatlemania” swept through New York and across the United States. Their thrilling debut performance on the Ed Sullivan Show drew more than 73 million viewers, making it the most-watched television event of the time. Beatles ’64 reveals the onstage glamour but also shares more intimate behind-the-scenes stories, capturing how John, Paul, George, and Ringo’s relationship developed into a close friendship as they rose to unimaginable fame.
The film includes rare footage from pioneering documentary filmmakers Albert and David Maysles, restored in 4K by New Zealand’s Park Road Post. Live footage from the Beatles’ first U.S. concerts at the Washington Coliseum and Ed Sullivan Show has been remixed by WingNut Films and Giles Martin. The music and visuals highlight this unique cultural moment and its lasting impact, told through interviews with Paul and Ringo, as well as fans whose lives were changed by the Beatles.
Beatles ’64 was directed by David Tedeschi and produced by Martin Scorsese, Margaret Bodde, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Mikaela Beardsley. The executive producers were Jeff Jones and Rick Yorn.
Simultaneously with the Disney+ premiere, Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe has prepared seven U.S. Beatles albums to be released worldwide on November 22, remastered on 180-gram vinyl from the original mono recordings. These albums, originally released in the U.S. between January 1964 and March 1965 under Capitol Records and United Artists, have not been available on vinyl since 1995. The titles—Meet The Beatles!; The Beatles’ Second Album; A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Sound Track); Something New; The Beatles’ Story (2LP); Beatles ’65; and The Early Beatles—are now available for pre-order in a new vinyl box set, The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums In Mono, with six of the albums also available individually.
