MOVIE NEWS – According to recent research, many people’s favourite Superman is the most popular potential role of James Bond…
Now, a new favourite has signed up to play the iconic James Bond—and it’s actually a longtime fan favourite. Man of Steel and The Witcher star Henry Cavill has now taken over the top spot from Kraven the Hunter and Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, according to new data from Betway Casino (via The Express ). Cavill has long been one of the frontrunners to play 007, and many Bond fans are still hoping that the 41-year-old former Superman actor will take Daniel Craig’s place in the beloved franchise.
Among the 31 potential actors who have reportedly been considered or talked about for the role, based on “Google searches, articles, article engagement and Reddit mentions for 31 potential actors”, new research reveals that Cavill tops Taylor-Johnson. According to the report, MCU actor and Luthor star Idris Elba is third, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson second, Venom star Tom Hardy fourth, and Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy fifth.
Although there is a real chance that Cavill or Taylor-Johnson will be chosen for the role of James Bond, the latter three people are very unlikely based on their age and profile.
However, Cavill has already been released from several major franchises, including The Witcher and the DC Universe. And fans have been clamouring for the actor to don a tuxedo and sip a martini for years.
What will the next James Bond film be like?
What exactly the studio plans to do with James Bond following Daniel Craig’s 2021 swan song is currently unknown. The franchise is expected to take the saga in a new direction after Craig’s more straightforward sequels. Some believe a much younger actor will be chosen to continue the role. Of course, who will be the actor who will bring the new version of James Bond to life is still unknown. Although, according to the latest research, Henry Cavill is the runner-up, bookmakers still consider Aaron Taylor-Johnson to be the favourite. He is closely followed by James Norton, Damson Idris and Gladiator 2 star Paul Mescal.
Eon is reportedly still in talks with potential directors. At the top of the mentioned list are names such as Oscar winner Edward Berger, Kelly Marcel, Australian David Michôd, Bart Layton and Yann Demange.
However, the studio believes that fans will be happy to wait. Jennifer Salke, global head of Amazon MGM Studios, is currently working with longtime James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and recently said that “audiences will be patient.”
“There are a lot of ideas [about potential actors] that have popped up that I thought were interesting. I think there are a lot of different ways we can go. We have a good and close relationship with Eon and Barbara and Michael. We are not looking to disrupt the way those wonderful films are made. For us, we are taking their lead. The global audience will be patient. We don’t want too much time between films, but we are not concerned at this point.”
