Could Christopher Nolan Make a Horror Movie?! This Is What the Director’s Interested In

MOVIE NEWS – There are creepy rumours about Christopher Nolan’s next film…

Christopher Nolan has already taken viewers to the farthest reaches of outer space, sent them to the world of dreams and to the front lines of World War II. But his latest film may travel to a place where the director has never gone before… the horror genre! Barely a nanosecond after Nolan’s latest film was announced, the internet was flooded with rumours about what the mysterious project might be. It has now been confirmed that Matt Damon, who worked with Nolan on Oppenheimer and Interstellar, will star in the film. And most recently, it was also reported that the Spider-Man of the MCU, Tom Holland, is also playing a major role. But the rumour mill continues to spin. Nolan’s next project could be anything: The Dark Knight 4 (highly unlikely); Nolan’s Bond film (maybe); Memento 2 (what would it be called? Mementos?!), as well as anything else we can imagine.

Now, according to a “reliable source” (via Gizmodo ), Nolan’s mysterious new project may see the director venture into the horror genre for the first time. Nolan’s next film is rumoured to be a vampire film set in the 1920s.

If (by some miracle) the rumour is true, this would be Nolan’s first foray into the realm of spooky movies.

The rumour goes along with the prevailing theory about the new film. Nothing has been confirmed about the film’s genre or story. However, when the project was first announced, there were reports that Nolan’s film would be another “period” work. However, few expected that the acclaimed sci-fi and drama director would throw bloodsuckers into the film.

Why should Christopher Nolan make a horror film?

Christopher Nolan is an iconic name in the film industry. Even the most ardent horror haters would flock to the theatres to see Nolan give Tom Holland and Matt Damon pointy teeth and extreme close-ups of them on 65mm film with an IMAX camera. Really, what if Nolan is working on a Twilight remake?!

What makes the concept interesting is that the audience has absolutely no idea what a Christopher Nolan horror film would look like. The director’s films have been called many different things over the decades; ambitious, jaw-dropping, touching and complicated have all been used to describe his movies. But the word “awesome” was rarely used. Nolan’s films featured scary figures like the Joker, Scarecrow and President Harry S. Truman. However, the closest Nolan came to a jumpscare on the big screen was when Mal (Marion Cotillard) ran toward the camera with a knife in his hand in a dream scene in Inception. Surprisingly, Nolan’s first short was a low-budget horror film called Tarantella, but it’s hard to use that as a benchmark for the director’s approach to horror, as he’s come a long, long way since then.

For now, nothing is certain about Nolan’s next film. Looking at his previous works, it is more likely that the “period piece” rumour is true. In contrast, the “vampire horror” rumour may be nothing more than overexcited fans eager to finally see the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s foray into the genre.
