Will the Next Mass Effect Copy Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Style?! The Director Told Us

Michael Gamble, the director of the next Mass Effect part, wants to keep realism in all the games of the franchise, not going to Dragon Age…

The first reviews of Dragon Age: The Veilguard have already arrived, and many content creators, journalists and game industry professionals are recommending BioWare’s new RPG. With Thedas’ adventure off to such a good start, will Mass Effect follow in the game’s footsteps for similar success? Michael Gamble, the director of the next part of the franchise, answers this question and focuses exclusively on the art style of the upcoming sci-fi adventure. This serves to clarify that the Mass Effect titles will retain the realistic look and feel of the IP.

Moreover, Gamble reminds us that there are sharp differences between the Dragon Age series and Mass Effect: “Lots of people asking me about Mass Effect now that Veilguard reviews are out, and Oct 31 is close. [Dragon Age: The Veilguard release date]” – he writes on his X-account: “Both are from the studio, but Mass Effect is Mass Effect. How you bring a Sci Fi RPG to life is different than other genres or IPs… and has to have different kinds of love.”

On a related note, one user took the opportunity to call out Mass Effect for not imitating the “Pixar style” of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Here, Gamble discusses the desired artistic direction of the sci-fi saga: “I’m not sure I agree with the Pixar thing, but Mass Effect is photorealistic and will be as long as I’m running it.”

Dragon Age: The Veilguard impressed the creator of Baldur’s Gate 3

Art issues aside, Dragon Age: The Veilguard really stands out with its story, fantasy world, and new combat system. It’s true that the latter worried many players because, in terms of combat, it breaks with everything we’ve seen in the franchise so far. But it turns out that even one of the chief creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 liked it. In this sense, the head of Larian Studio’s publishing, considers BioWare’s idea to be a mixture of Xenoblade Chronicles and Hogwarts Legacy, which is quite a good combo, according to him.
