S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl: Prioritizing Frame Rate Above All! [VIDEO]

GSC Game World doesn’t want the game’s frame rate to jump around, so the Ukrainian studio has been working hard to make it stable.

We’re less than a month away from the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (but knowing GSC Game World, we’ll believe that when we get our hands on the game’s disc… they delayed the first game a lot!), and the Russian-Ukrainian war has certainly taken its toll on development. Nevertheless, the team held a final press event in Prague, where they revealed more details about the game. In an interview with Radio Times Gaming, technical producer Yevhenii Kulyk talked about how much they’ve optimized their custom Unreal Engine, and the modding mentioned earlier (at Gamescom) was one of the topics:

“To meet our expectations for optimization on Xbox and PC, we made a lot of changes to render threads, some CPU optimizations, and a lot of RAM optimizations. Now we are pretty close to finishing the whole polishing process. Our goal is to deliver a game that runs consistently with stable FPS and performance. Our engine is based on Unreal Engine 5.1, but we internally call it 5.1.GSC, because to create such a large world, we had to adapt and, let’s say, maybe rewrite and upgrade some of the tools provided by the basic Unreal Engine to fit our needs to create the world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2.

We are aware that our player base, especially the old fans, are waiting for our game to support mods. We are going to bring mods to consoles, so they will be available on Xbox as well as PC, and we are preparing a very large toolkit that will provide mod makers with all the necessary tools to create mods, from the smallest to the biggest total conversions,” said Kulyk.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is coming to Xbox Series and PC on November 20, but will also be available on Game Pass. PlayStation 5 may get it in early 2025.
