Tensor G6: Reduced Chip Power and Limited AI Features from Google!

TECH NEWS – We’ll find this chip in the cheaper Google Pixel 11a, which will miss out on many of the features that rely on AI.

Google launched the Pixel 9 series earlier this year, and Android 15 has also kept up with the release cycle. The company is looking to make significant changes to its mobile flagships, including the Pixel A devices and Pixel Tablet. Currently, the cheaper smartphones have the same chip as the high-end models, as there is a weaker variant of it. This may change in the future, as Alphabet subsidiary Tensor G6 is planning to introduce a lower-end variant that will be present in the Pixel 11a and Pixel Tablet 3.

It makes sense for Google to move to the lower end with the Tensor G6 chip, but there are drawbacks. The processing power won’t be as good, and budget products may miss out on some important AI features. Apple, on the other hand, packs the latest components and more RAM into its devices to support Apple Intelligence features, giving the Cupertino company an edge in the lower price range.

According to AndroidAuthority, Google would release a new Pixel tablet every two years. The Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel Fold would all be powered by a Tensor G6 chip. It would be based on TSMC’s 2-nanometer architecture, which would be a worthy upgrade over Samsung’s potential iteration of the chip. In addition, the Pixel 11a will feature a butchered version of the G6 chip. The company decided to separate the Tensor chips after TSMC’s entry. The G6 uses InFo’s packaging technology, so the faulty elements of the TPU can be removed by Google to save chips that would otherwise be discarded without them, so this would be a cost-effective but AI performance-sapping move. This will differentiate the Tensor G6 from budget chips in terms of appearance and functionality.

A low-cost version of the Tensor G6 could thus debut in 2027 in the Pixel 11a and perhaps the Pixel Tablet. Apple will put an A18 chip in the iPhone SE 4, which will have the same technology as the iPhone 16…
