MOVIE NEWS – Ryan Reynolds rarely passes up an opportunity to entertain online, and Martha Stewart’s remark that he’s “not so funny in real life” was no exception. Stewart is currently riding a wave of success on Netflix, with her documentary Martha trending on the platform. However, it was her appearance on the game show Rent Free where she offered her candid take on what it’s like being neighbors with Reynolds.
Despite years of making audiences laugh on screen and social media, it seems that Stewart doesn’t quite see Reynolds as the jokester many imagine him to be in daily life. During a game segment where she had to guess the top three celebrities the public thinks would be fun to hang out with, she correctly identified Reynolds – alongside Snoop Dogg and Reynolds’ family friend, Taylor Swift – but added a personal opinion with her signature bluntness.
“You know what? He’s not so funny in real life. No, he’s very serious. He’s a good actor; he can act funny, but he isn’t funny. Maybe he’ll get back to being funny. I’m going to get in trouble. He’s my neighbor.”
Stewart’s reputation for unfiltered honesty is well known, and while her comment on the Deadpool star was clearly not meant to offend, her blunt assessment was enough to provoke a witty response from one of Canada’s biggest stars. Reynolds took to X/Twitter to respond in his trademark humorous style.
“I’d disagree with her. But I tried that once. The woman is unexpectedly spry. She really closed the gap after a mile or so.”

Ryan Reynolds May Be Different Off-Camera – and That’s Okay
As with any celebrity, there’s a difference between the person seen in public and the one behind closed doors. Most fans know Reynolds isn’t a non-stop joke machine. In fact, the actor has previously opened up about his struggles with mental health, speaking in 2021 about his lifelong anxiety in hopes of encouraging young people to share their feelings openly.
On screen, however, Reynolds is a one-liner powerhouse, especially when trading playful jabs with his friend, Hugh Jackman. Their back-and-forth banter, stemming from their Deadpool & Wolverine days, may have slowed, but it’s unlikely to disappear completely. Just don’t expect Reynolds to add Martha Stewart to his list of playful online sparring partners anytime soon.
