MOVIE NEWS – When it won the Palme d’Or in Cannes in May, Anora was immediately listed as an Oscar contender – in the best film category – on the Gold Derby entertainment industry prospecting website, where, in addition to film gold statues, TV and theater and they also try to predict potential winners of music awards. The title character of Anora, Mikey Madison, is considered an absolute Oscar contender not only at the Gold Derby, but everywhere else as well, according to the critics, his performance is the biggest surprise of the year in acting.
Otherwise, the nominations for Anorá are coming in nicely, among the Gotham Awards nominations awarded by New York City, the film is included in four categories: best film, best director (Sean Baker), Best Actor (Madison) and Best Supporting Actor (Yura Borisov). Incidentally, these four nominations are the same as those predicted for Anorá at the Oscars.
Meanwhile, critics cannot get enough of the fact that Anora is an unadulterated auteur film, but it can also be very entertaining; not every bush has a cinema like this these days, the judges are enthused. It is pointed out that Anora turns the story of Cinderella on its head, and the ending is so thought-provoking that the viewer cannot get it out of their head for days.
The title character of the film is a Brooklyn sex worker (Madison), who is hired for a week by the son of a Russian oligarch (Mark Eydelshteyn), but the sex adventure turns into romance and then suddenly marriage. The Russian parents try to undo the reckless step of the young people, and the romance takes a dark turn.
