That’s not the only reason we know Tony Todd, as the actor also had roles in games (some of which you wouldn’t think of at first).
Tony Todd died on November 6 at his home in Los Angeles, and the cause of death is unknown, according to Deadline. His film credits included Oliver Stone’s 1986 film Platoon, 1990’s Night of the Living Dead, 1994’s The Crow, 1997’s Wishmaster, and he was also Candyman in the original films. He has also been seen in series, appearing in the cast of The X-Files, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
His game roles also began with Star Trek, as he played the role of Kurn’s commanding officer in 1998’s Star Trek: The Next Generation: Klingon Honor Guard (an FPS), and then voiced the Vortigaunts in Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and Half-Life: Alyx. He lent his voice to Admiral Tommy Briggs in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Todd voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. He has also appeared in Layers of Fear 2, Artfiact, Star Trek Online, Star Trek: Elite Force 2, Back 4 Blood and Dota: Underlords. His most recent game appearance may have been in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, where he played a character named Locus.
Layers of Fear 2 developer Bloober Team mourned Todd: “We mourn the loss of Tony Todd, the voice that drew us into the shadows of Layers of Fear 2. Rest now, Tony – you are forever intertwined with the darkness we dared to face.” And Insomniac Games said, “Insomniac Games is heartbroken by the passing of our friend Tony Todd. He brought so much joy to our studio during the production of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and to many fans around the world with his inimitable voice and presence.”
Tony Todd has passed away at the age of 69. God rest his soul.
