Zakazane: Lies of P’s Publisher Hits Jackpot with Former CD Projekt Developers!

The new game from Warsaw studio Zakazane, which will be a noir western RPG, looks a bit like Telltale’s The Walking Dead, according to the first image…

Neowiz was the company that published Lies of P, which turned out to be a successful game. Now the publisher has gotten in on the act, signing an $8 million publishing rights deal with Warsaw-based Zakazane to publish its first game. It will be a single-player noir Western RPG about a sheriff in a remote mining town trying to close a case that could save the local community from falling apart.

Zakazane is led by Jan Bartkowicz, Piotr Chomiak, Radosław Gwarek and Marta Sobek, and consists of developers who have previously worked for other Central European studios (CD Projekt RED, 11 Bit Studios). Previously, it launched the development of its first game with a $1 million pre-seed investment led by The Games Fund, with an even larger contribution from Neowiz.

“Neowiz is committed to delivering remarkable, story-driven games that resonate with gamers around the world, and we’re actively looking for talented developers with a passion for well-crafted narratives. When we first met Zakazane, we felt an immediate kinship with their passion for creating projects that deeply engage audiences. Their upcoming neo-Western RPG will be an important addition to our portfolio and reflects our ambition to build enduring franchises across PC and consoles. Together, we will create a brand that combines quality and storytelling for gamers to cherish for years to come,” said Neowiz co-CEO Seung-Cheol Kim in a press release.

“We found a great understanding of our vision with Neowiz, who were excited about our debut title the moment we showed them the demo. In the discussions that followed, they never tried to sway us from our principles, but rather made sure that we stuck to our guns. It’s clear that both sides understand that games can become important to people on a personal level, making them both valuable works of culture and good business,” added Zakazane CEO and co-founder Jan Barkowicz.

We hope to hear more about the Polish team’s game soon.
