CD Projekt has announced the GOG Preservation Program to maintain support for current and future PCs, and with some great games already running, it’s off to a great start.
With the GOG Preservation Program, CD Projekt (CDP) is putting its heart and soul into protecting timeless classics. Their resources will support a growing collection of hand-picked games, keeping them playable as technology evolves. Each game in the program will receive ongoing updates and maintenance from GOG, preserving the spirit of gaming for today’s players and generations to come. When you purchase a game from the GOG Preservation Program, you can rest assured that it will work on current and future PC setups. You’ll get the most complete version available, including compatibility, manuals, bonus content, and DLC-even features missing from other editions. If you have any technical issues, the technical support team is ready to help, and as always, you’ll have access to offline installers to secure your games the way you want.
CDP’s goal is for all games, new and classic, to eventually become part of the preservation program. For a game to qualify for the program, their team must run it through many quality tests. If the game fails these tests, your team will update and improve the game until it meets their quality standards. Only then do they stamp the game with their Preservation Program and grant it Good Old Game status. There is a long backlog of classic games available on GOG that may already qualify for the program, but their team has not been able to confirm this yet. Their goal is to support as many games as possible, but it’s not always up to them. They’re launching with over 100 games, including:
Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete, Dungeon Keeper 2, Theme Hospital, Diablo + Hellfire, System Shock 2, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition, Anno 1404: Gold Edition, SWAT 4: Gold Edition, Myst Masterpiece Edition, Blade Runner, Arcanum: From Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Empire Earth Gold Edition, and many more. With the GOG Preservation Program, they’re not just preserving games – they’re preserving gaming’s legacy, ensuring that beloved classics remain accessible, updated, and complete, even as technology and the industry change. They keep games alive forever.
“GOG, founded 16 years ago to preserve games, has made 2024 a pivotal year with the restoration of Alpha Protocol and classic Resident Evil titles. These releases embody our work: reviving games built on outdated, custom technology that their original creators can no longer maintain. With the GOG Preservation Program, we continue our mission to make games live forever,” said GOG CEO Maciej Golębiewski in a press release.
