Republic Games: New Studio Established by Star Wars: Eclipse’s Lead Writer!

A key developer on Quantic Dream’s next game, acquired by NetEase, has already left the Chinese-owned French studio to make a dark, mature fantasy RPG.

Adam Williams previously worked at Quantic Dream on the long-rumored… and for years unseen, Star Wars: Eclipse. Now he has formed his own team called Republic Games. His initial capital has been backed by Krafton, so the company known for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and The Callisto Protocol is also funding Williams and his new concept.

The studio’s first game is a dark, adult fantasy RPG that will somehow mix the world of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings with George Orwell’s 1984.

“A tyrannical regime brutally enforces its ideology and crushes all dissent. But a faction of rebels seeks to overthrow the tyrants and expose the lies at the heart of their doctrine. We founded Republic Games to create fun and meaningful experiences. We’re focused solely on giving players what they really want: great gameplay, great story, inspiring characters, and a fantasy experience they’ll never forget.

We believe there’s a broad base of RPG players who feel they’re not being served. They want classic, traditional, timeless fantasy. They want a story that responds to their choices and gives them the freedom to go in any direction they want, rather than being told what to think about the story and the characters. That’s the audience we’re making this for,” Williams wrote.

Williams was previously the lead writer on Detroit: Become Human, and two actors from that game (Bryan and Amelia Dechart, who played Connor and Traci) have confirmed that they will be returning for Republic Games’ new game. And Star Wars: Eclipse was last rumored to be “simmering” last September, and is rumored to be released in 2026 or 2027.

It would be funny if Williams’ game would be released before Star Wars: Eclipse!
