Rockstar Sparks Drama Over GTA Trilogy Credits – Devs Hit Back

“It’s a dirty move.” The ongoing feud between Rockstar and the developers of the GTA Trilogy continues, with the project lead responding to changes in the credits. Groove Street Games is no longer credited at the start of the game but remains in the end credits.

Three years after its release, GTA: Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received updates for PC and consoles, incorporating features from its mobile port (developed by Video Games Deluxe). These updates brought a noticeable change: Groove Street Games is no longer listed on the game’s opening screen; only Rockstar’s logo appears as the parent of the GTA franchise. The original developers are still credited at the end, but the project lead expressed dissatisfaction with Rockstar’s decision.

Thomas Williamson has addressed the removal of Groove Street Games’ logo from the opening credits. Without directly mentioning Rockstar or GTA: Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, he shared his thoughts on X: “Speaking entirely hypothetically: it is a low-down move to remove the main developers from the credits in an update, especially when an update includes hundreds of fixes that have been offered by those developers when they were out of the players’ reach for years.”

Fans quickly noted that Groove Street Games remains credited at the end of GTA: Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, with only their logo removed from the opening screen. Some players went further, recalling that Groove Street Games’ original work left Grand Theft Auto fans disappointed. The initial PC and console versions were riddled with bugs, prompting Rockstar to enlist Video Games Deluxe for mobile ports. As a result, few regret the change to the opening credits.

What’s New in GTA: Trilogy’s Latest Update?

Despite the controversy, GTA: Trilogy – The Definitive Edition resolved numerous bugs with its latest patch. Beyond fixes, the update introduced a new lighting system that recreates the original look of GTA III, GTA: San Andreas, and GTA: Vice City. This feature debuted in the mobile version, and players have demanded its inclusion in PC and console versions since last December.
