PlayStation fans have been warned: redeem your free store credit now or risk losing it forever. Don’t miss out before it’s too late!
Sony has been quietly limiting how players can earn free store credit through the PlayStation Stars rewards program. Not only are the ways to earn points being scaled back, but rewards themselves are changing, with digital collectibles taking their place.
What is PlayStation Stars?
For those unaware, PlayStation Stars is a free rewards program. Once registered via the PS mobile app, you can earn points for store purchases and collect additional points or digital items by completing specific campaigns.
Recently, gamers grew concerned when Sony introduced expiration dates for redeeming points for rewards. Many see this as an added hurdle to obtaining €5 or €20 vouchers for the PlayStation Store. Previously, 1,250 points were enough to secure €5 in free store credit. Now, rumors suggest Sony is preparing to eliminate the option to exchange points for store credit entirely. If true, players may soon be restricted to spending points on in-game currency, digital items, or full games.
This won’t come as a shock to some. The €5 credit reward has already been absent for a while, with only €10 or €20 options available—and even these are inaccessible to some users.
Reddit user Joshinator29 shared a warning:
“Exchanging points for store credit is being removed. This is a PSA for anyone who still has the option. I don’t anymore.”
“I just got off the phone with PS customer support, and they confirmed the option to redeem store credit is being removed soon,” they added. “If you still have the option and enough points, use them NOW.”
However, not everyone is convinced.
“Don’t take customer service reps at their word. They only know what’s publicly available and might just say anything to end the call,” argued SolidusDave. While the comment raises a valid point, Sony’s recent trends suggest the rumors may not be far off.
As of now, the ability to redeem points for PlayStation Store credit still exists—but only for select users, and availability varies even within regions. If you have enough points and can still redeem them, it’s probably wise to act sooner rather than later.
