Remedy’s creative mastermind, Sam Lake, is set to be honored with the Andrew Yoon Legend Award at the 2025 New York Videogame Critics Circle Awards. The accolade celebrates exceptional artistic achievement and innovation in the gaming industry.
The New York Videogame Critics Circle’s Andrew Yoon Legend Award recognizes individuals and organizations with a significant and sustained impact on the video game world. Previous honorees include industry titans like Neil Druckmann, Reggie Fils-Aimé, Phil Spencer, Tim Schafer, Jerry Lawson, Jade Raymond, and Hideo Kojima.
Lake, best known for his over 20 years at Remedy Entertainment, has left a lasting legacy through his creative leadership on titles like Control and the Alan Wake series.
“It’s a tremendous honor to celebrate someone of Sam Lake’s caliber at the 14th annual New York Game Awards,” said Harold Goldberg, president and co-founder of the NYVGCC. “The unique identity of Remedy games stems largely from Sam Lake’s creative vision. His career spanning two decades has profoundly influenced our members and interns at the Circle. We’re delighted to welcome him to the distinguished roster of Andrew Yoon Legend Award recipients.”
The 2025 New York Game Awards will take place on January 21 at Manhattan’s SVA Theatre.
Ryan O’Callaghan, executive director of NYVGCC, added:
“It’s rare for a studio to create such an outstanding sequel a decade later, and even rarer for it to resonate so deeply with fans while tying together an interconnected universe from previous franchises. No one expects anything less from Sam Lake. He recently spoke with our students and interns, and it was inspiring to see where he draws his creativity and the meticulous care he invests in game development. This year’s New York Game Awards will be unforgettable.”
